Cultural Background

The OTOL Rx treatment model reflects a strong sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural diversity issues. Our approach has evolved from over 25 years of experience in home and community rehabilitation work with persons from a broad range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. This is essential given the cultural mix in southern California even among families who do speak English. We have learned that effective rehabilitation– particularly in the home and community setting- often involves modifying common practices and approaches in order to step outside an Anglo cultural lens. We strive to incorporate personal preferences for how services are best to be provided, including cultural considerations and respect for family routines and lifestyle choices.
